It erupted in the year 1991. Due to the warming of the eruption, it caused the thaw of the snow, so that people could discover the Ampato and the Juanita mummy. The characteristic is that this volcano is active.
To go up to this volcano, it is not necessary to have a great technical experience. You can climb it from Sallalli.
First Day
We leave Arequipa after the breakfast, going in a 4x4 car in direction to the Colca canyon. We take the turn away to the place called “Pata Pampa” or the “volcanoes belvedere “up to the altitudes of Sallalli. We arrive by 4×4 car till the 4900m in 4 hours. The 4x4 car continues from 4900m till the 5200m, where is situated the main camping place.
Second Day
Departure at the morning climbing till the top of 5976 meters in 5 hours. In the afternoon, we come back to the transportation of 4900m and return to Arequipa.
