we will leave in the morning by private car to salinas lagoon; this lagoon is found at 4300 meters high, between the volcanoes, misti, ubinas y pichu pichu. the salinas lagoon is found in the protection of the aguada blanca and salinas national reserve. during the last few years the ubinas volcano has moderately erupted.

all year we can see vicuñas (a species of south american camel) and on some occasions llamas and alpacas. also we can observe the vizcacha (andean rabbit) and if you are lucky you can sometimes see the andean foxes. also we can see a plant that only grows at 4000 meters of altitude or more, its name is yareta.

here we can see the three different species of flamingos, this you can see only in this lagoon and not in any other part of the world. to be more specific this doesn’t occur in the ´flamingos lake’ it is more famous than africa, (nakuru and naivasha, in kenya) and here you can only observe the two species.

the 3 species that exist in the salinas lagoon are:

• phoenicopteras chilensis (chilin flamingo)
  
• phoenicoparras andinas (large andean parihuana)
  
• phoenicoparras jamesi (andean girl - parihuana)
  

then we will visit the salt town of tambos where we will be able to observe the development of salt.

during the day we will have a packed lunch.

we will return from the salinas lagoon to arequipa we will be able to visit the typical town of chiguata.

we will arrive in the city of arequipa approximately 4 pm.
