TREKKING COLCA CANYON 3 DAYS AND 2 NIGHTS 3 days / 2 nights

CABANACONDE – SAN JUAN DE CHUCCHO – COSHÑIRHUA - MALATA – OASIS- CRUZ DEL CONDOR
We believe this to be a preferred trek for those who enjoy hiking and contact with nature. The hours of trekking per day are not too long.
First Day:
6:00 AM - We travel to the small town of Cabanaconde. (colca canyon)

We arrive in Cabanaconde (3,287 mhsl) after a 6 hour trip. Upon arriving we will have lunch at a restaurant.

We start the trek down to the Colca River (3:30 /4 hrs. Aprox). On the way down to the bottom of the Canyon we will visit a typical village named San Juan de Chuccho, 2200 mhsl. During the dry season in Colca the weather maintains an average temperature of about 30ºC. In the bowels of the canyon we will find a variety of volcanic stones. We will spend the night in the village of San Juan de Chuccho in typical huts with dinner prepared and served by a local family.
Second Day:
6:00 AM - Get up and have a breakfast.

On this day we will hike to Tapay (2900 mhsl), about 1 hour and 30 min. going up. This colonial village is known for its Quechua-speaking population. Also, it affords us a lookout to the opposite side of the Canyon.

Continuing the hike, we make a 2 hour descent to the villages of Coshñirhua (2350 mhsl) and Malata (2350 mhsl), and then another hour of hiking to arrive at the oasis of Sangalle (2000 mhsl). Lunch. The oasis of Sangalle is a great place to relax and appreciate nature, while also taking advantage of the lukewarm swimming pools (18ºC). The owners of the oasis have built small houses of bamboo where we will be spending the night.

Our guide will explain the various native fruits growing in the oasis, such as the lucma, the pacay, and the chirimoya. You will also have the opportunity to taste them.
Third Day:
4:30 AM - Back up to Cabanaconde (1200 m up). We will be setting out a little early to catch the sunrise over Colca Canyon, and also to make time for our stop at Cross of the Condor to watch for condors. There is also a possibility of spotting condors on the trek up to town from the oasis. We will have breakfast when we arrive in Cabanaconde.
We then take the transport to the Condor’s Cross (25 min.) to admire the condor in flight (about 1 hour and a half) before continuing on to the town of Chivay to relax in the thermal hotsprings (38ºC). In order to enjoy more time in the hotsprings we will bring along a lunch of sandwiches and fruit.

Afterward we make the return trip to Arequipa, arriving at approximately 5 PM.

You have just read the version of  Classic Colca trekking. We call it the classic version because this route is one of the oldest in the Colca Canyon and is the most famous.
the negative aspects of Classic Colca Trekking are: There are too many people, too many tourists.
Another negative aspect in the Classic  Colca Trek is 3-4 hours trek per day . In the Colca trek not classic of Pablo Tour we walk more.In this trek in the second day we have different routes to get to the Oasis and depending on the physical condition of each customer, you can choice which route to take.

In the trek in colca canyon we have 3 kinds of services:
*Service in a local bus - private transport service and tourist bus service

Positive Aspect in local bus service:

-Is a good choice to do economic and cheap trek
-You get to know Perú in a different way, there’s more contact with local people and tourist as well.
-With the local bus we can observe the condor cross (the last day of trek).

Negatives aspects in a local bus:

-Local bus transport is different in Perú, it is a basic service. Inside the local bus there’s no heating nor air conditioning.

-Normally in a local bus everyone sits but there are people who are stand.

-In the local bus there’s no toilet, the bus just stop to pick passengers up in different towns . The bus stop in chivay village (toilet).

-With the local bus you can’t visit turistic places in the Colca Valley just in Condor’s Cross and in Chivay -hot springs.

Transport private service

-Private transport service is opposite to the local bus service that stops in the toilets and in places to take pictures and it’s more confortable.
The service in private transports is more expensive.
- It's a service to people who are interested in visiting the colca valley, remember that the trekking is into the Colca Canyon.
- It’s a service to people who likes the confort into the transport and to know the Colca Canyon.
-In a private service, we visit the colca valley doing stops like to do sightseeing terraces, pre-inca tombs, sightseeing volcanoes, the national reserve of Salinas and Aguada Blanca: Llamas, vicuñas, alpacas and  colonial towns etc.

Tourist bus service

It is a service where there are only tourists, in the tourist bus there are usually between 25 and 30 passengers.

The bus goes through the various hotels to pick up the passenger. if the departure day there are 25 people, the bus pick up the passenger from 13 different hotels.
That's why it always prevents the client must be between 3:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. waiting the tourist Bus, you should wait without knowing the exact time of pickup.
In conclusion, the bus leaves from Arequipa to 5:30 am, and continues to the condor cross without stops along the way. The  bus arrive at the condor cross at 10:00 am, the bus wait 30 min. In the condor cross.

Remember that the local bus arrives at 12:00 at cabanaconde village.

One negative aspect of this tourist bus service is, the bus arrive very late to the Condor Cross ( in the first day). We can see the condors?.
Return (third day) the bus leaves at 10:00 am. From Cabanaconde to the village of Chivay, and arrive to condor cross 30 min. after, with 2 stops in the Colca Valley.
A positive aspect of this tourist bus service, is usually in the big buses there is toilet, but remember in the local bus service, you can go to the toilet in Chivay village.

For the reasons explained, We do not recommend the trek in tourist bus service.
